U14 SAULT ICE HAWKS ARE “OUT OF THIS WORLD"
Submitted By Dennis Campbell on Monday, March 9, 2015
It’s been 20 years since the Sault Ringette Club has been represented in the Ontario Ringette U14 Provincial Championships but that drought is about to come to an end. New Market will play host to the 2015 tournament March 19-22 and has chosen to deem this year’s provincials to be out of this world and that is exactly how our tween ladies have played in the 2014/15 season.

Let’s recap this year's events...we started out in London in early November, our record not withstanding at 1-3-0 did not represent fully the hard work and effort that was on display as the girls dropped 3 out of 4 games by the slimmest of margins. Next up was the Mississauga “Must” tournament in early December where the girls found better bounces to go along with a solid work ethic and a 3-0-1 record that was good for a spot in the tournament playoffs and an eventual gold medal for the ride home! The New Year brought a trip to Burlington in mid-January and though we all had a blast our outcomes dropped off slightly and 2-2-0 was not enough to make the playoffs. Finally it was time to show our heart in Ayr last month...3-0-1 brought us back to our winning ways and into the Provincial Championships again!

Defence has been the name of the game and our record says it all...9-5-2 with 4 of our losses by only 1 goal. With Alyssa Desgagne in net and the defensive pairings of Isabelle Baril, Kaitlyn Stocks and Kayla Simms with Avy Bowman the Ice Hawks are in good hands for New Market. The offence is deep as well with 3 rotating forward lines of Zoey Campbell with Shelbey Walker and Megan Rogozynski, Victoria Young centering Jenna Vecchio and Darienne See and Mackenzie Wood-Salomon flanked by Shelby Campbell and Allison Caldwell-Pratt.

There has been a lot of hard work put in to keep these girls on track and as always special thanks goes to the coaching staff of Bruce Graham, Debbie Desgagne, Carl Desgagne, Marc Baril and Sara Jones.

On this the 20th anniversary of the last U14 Provincial Tween Champion Ice Hawks, I leave you with the wise words of Mack David and Jerry Livingstone;

”Overture, curtains, lights, This is it, the night of nights.

No more rehearsing and nursing a part, We know every part by heart.

Overture, curtains, lights, This is it you’ll hit the heights And oh what heights we’ll hit, on with the show this is it.”

Go get‘em girls! GO ICE HAWKS!!
