Congratulations Katelyn Desgagne!
Katelyn has been a ringette player with the Sault Ringette
Club since the age of 7. She graduated
from our youth program in 2015, and was the recipient of the Bill Claringbold
award: “A player that exemplifies leadership
and contributes their time to assist the club and the coaches, taking on tasks
whenever asked. This player is a
teammate and mentor for the younger players and is dedicated to making the
sport of ringette better for all".
Some of you may know Katelyn as a teammate, referee, and National Ringette School instructor.
Katelyn is now attending the University of Guelph, majoring in Bio-Chemistry. She headed off to university this year with a desire to play elite ringette for the Guelph Gryphons and had attended five tryouts in September to try to earn a spot on the team, where only 12 players would be selected to play in the tournaments.
Through a lot of hard work and determination over her years of playing ringette for our local club, as a member of an Ice Hawks team, travelling to play for a provincial A team centred around the Sudbury basin, and playing for the Northeast Regional U19 AAA team from the age of 14-18, Katelyn continues to play elite ringette, as she was successful at securing a spot as a member of the Guelph Gryphons 18+ AA team. The Guelph Gryphons were the Provincial Champions in the 18+ Jacks Division, held in Timmins last year! Way to go Gryphons!
Katelyn will be playing her first tournament for the Gryphons in London, November 10-13th, which is the same tournament that our local Ice Hawks U12, U14 and U16 teams have entered.
Ringette opportunities for our children exist beyond our local club, as the universities that offer a ringette program are thriving and our children can look forward to playing well into adulthood. Aside from the universities, many associations and clubs across the country, offer ringette at the 18+ age level, including our own club.
