U14 Ice Hawks – Silver at Regionals!
Submitted By U14 on Wednesday, March 29, 2017
This past weekend the U14 Sault Ice Hawks competed at the 2017 Northeast Regional Ringette Championships Tournament in Timmins and skated home with the Silver medal!

Competing in a division of 6 tough teams, the Ice Hawks were seeded first through the round robin portion of the tournament with a record of 3 – 1.

The first game against a young Walden team was never in question as the Sault cruised to a 11-3 victory, with 9 different players scoring at least one goal. The Hawks followed that game with a well-played 9-4 victory over the talented Timmins Rehab Plus team on the strength of hat tricks by Gabrielle Baril, Hannah Booth and Brianna Walker and excellent goal-tending by Hope Hilderley.

Day 2 of the tournament started with what was a rough and tumble game against a tough Sudbury squad. Emotions ran high in what was a close game until Sudbury’s goaltender went down with an injury and the game ended in an 11-4 victory for the Sault. Next, in what the referee described as the best game of the tournament to that point, the Sault played the big Timmins Porcupine Kinsmen team. Tied 2-2 heading into the second period, the Sault team found themselves trailing 6-3 with 5 minutes left in the game when 2 goals 2.5 minutes apart cut the Timmins lead to 6-5. The Hawks never stopped pushing, just missing a glorious chance with seconds remaining in the game.

Coming off of an emotionally and physically exhausting Saturday, the Ice Hawks squared-off against the Timmins Rehab Plus team for the gold medal. Although trailing throughout the game, every one of the Hawks displayed a never-say-die approach and made the Timmins team earn their 9-4 victory.

The U14 Sault Ice Hawks should wear their silver medals with pride and hold their heads high as they battled hard all weekend and showed a high compete level and great resilience in the face of challenges. The team is made-up of the following talented and dedicated young women: Gabrielle Baril, Hannah Booth, Marley Coccimiglio, Hope Hilderley, Sarah Kresin, Megan MacDonald, Lily Masse, Makayla Muncaster, Alyssa Paquin, Rachel Reed, Brianna Walker, Michaela Walker. The Regional team was coached by Pam Muncaster, Dave Walker and Chris Kresin and managed by Marnie Muncaster. We are all proud of these girls and are looking forward to building on this success during the 2017/18 season! WHO ARE WE…SAULT ICE HAWKS!!!
