Submitted By U10 on Thursday, March 30, 2017
WOW! What a great season for this year’s U10 Ice Hawks. The
growth our girls showed through out the season is massive. It has been an
absolute pleasure to coach these amazing kids!
In Dec 2016 we hit the road with the U14 and U16 Provincial
Teams to Pickering where the girls had some close, hard fought games and
finished 0-3. It was an eye opening experience for our 1st year players but we came home to prepare for Guelph
with a fire the couldn’t be quenched. These girls wanted to compete.
Feb 2017 brought us to Guelph where the girls came out fighting! With a 1-0-2 record the girls made it to the Semis with a much needed 6-6 tie in our last game against Forest in the last 20 seconds. We entered the semifinals in 3rd place where our girls had to play the very strong and physical Richmond Hill Lightning. Our girls managed the win in sudden death overtime with a final score of 6-5! Finals had our Ice Hawks facing Forest again for the top spot. Both teams came out fighting hard and the lead was traded back and forth the entire game. Forest squeaked out the win with 2 late goals in the last 2 min of the game with a final score of 10-7. Our U10 Sault Ice Hawks came home with a Silver!
This past weekend the girls attended the Northeast Regional Championships in Timmins with one goal in mind. Bring home the GOLD! Our girls came out with an intensity that could not be matched by any team. Out of the 9 U10 teams present our Ice Hawks met Walden 12-5, Timmins Designer Pool 9-2, Iroquois Falls 10-3 & Valley East 10-3 in the round robin. Our girls entered the Semi-Finals in 1st place. We met the 4th seed Valley East in the semi-finals and after a hard fought battle the girls brought home the win with a score of 9-6. Finals had as matching up with a familiar Timmins Designer Pool team where the girls put together an early lead leaving the first period up 9-2. The girls finished the game with a final score of 10-3. The team work, friendship and spirit of these girls is truly unique. Our girls dominated the division and came home with what they intended. A gold medal!
None of this could have happened without the hard work and dedication of our team staff and parents. Thanks to our Assistant coaches Chris Kresin and Chelsea Clingen, Managers Anna-Lisa Walker and Allison Frigon and Treasurer Amanda King.
A big thanks to our 2 Major Sponsors Kresin Engineering and the Marconi Club along with Sponsors Makeover Magician and Ideal Colour Connection.
