Why Choose Ringette?
When it comes to signing your child up for sports, there are more options than ever. Sault Ste. Marie is a sporty town. From hockey to soccer to gymnastics, parents are spoiled for choice, but we believe ringette offers something truly unique that makes us a little different. Ringette is fast-paced, exciting, and built on a foundation of teamwork, inclusion, and FUN. It’s a sport originally designed with girls in mind—but open to all—and it's one of the best-kept secrets in Canadian sport. We're hoping to change that. If you’re wondering where your child might thrive, here’s why ringette could be the perfect fit.
It’s Not Hockey—And That’s a Good Thing
Let’s be clear: we love hockey. But ringette isn’t hockey, and that’s what makes it so special. Ringette was created in Canada in 1963 specifically as a team sport for girls. It uses a straight stick and a rubber ring instead of a puck. There’s no body checking, and the rules are designed to encourage passing, strategy, and collaboration. Ringette is played on the same ice surface as hockey but with different rules, rhythms, and skills. While the game is lightning fast, it’s also about finesse, cooperation, and reading the play.
A True Team Sport
If you want your child to learn what it means to be part of a team, ringette delivers. Ringette is the ultimate team sport. Players must work together to pass the ring over each blue line, meaning no one can do it alone. Everyone is involved, everyone gets to play, and everyone contributes to the outcome. That’s not just good for developing athletes; it’s great for developing confident and connected kids.
Created for Girls, Open to All
Ringette was designed to empower girls in sport at a time when their options were limited. Today, it’s open to everyone, and we continue to lead the way in creating inclusive, empowering spaces for female athletes. In our ringette program, your child will not only develop athletic skills, they’ll also gain confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships in a community that prioritizes support over stress.
Affordable and Accessible
Let’s be honest: organized sport can be expensive. But compared to many other ice sports, ringette is easier on the family budget. Our club works hard to keep registration fees affordable with introductory rates of just $99- $265. We can also help connect families to organizations that provide financial support. You don’t have to break the bank to give your child the benefits of team sport, compared to other ice sports.
Community, Belonging, and Fun
At its heart, ringette is about more than just what happens on the rink. It’s about building community among teammates, families, and as a club. It’s about learning life lessons: perseverance, kindness, and responsibility. Many of our players stay with the sport for years, returning as coaches and mentors. Ringette truly is a sport for life. Whether your child dreams of competition or simply wants to skate and have fun with friends, ringette offers a place where they’ll feel they belong. Our club offers both competitive and recreational pathways, so there's an option that fits your child and your family.
